“You are nursing Christ’s brother and sisters and caring for the holy Infant in the children you look after” – Fr. Wilhelm Meyer (Founder – SAL)
The growing number of elderly destitute on the streets is a reflection of the pathetic situation of the elderly today. The days they need to spend peacefully and joyfully often become the days of sadness and regret.
SAL has established an institutional care for destitute women in Nunna. The capacity for this place is for 20 women. Over here, the needs of these women are taken care of – clothing, shelter, food and even burial. SAL is thinking of expanding the premises to accommodate more women.
In Jaggayyapeta, SAL oversees the care of 75 families. Every month they visit these families to give them what they need in terms of provision, clothes and moral support. SAL even buys medicines for the families for a limited amount. Every year, they have a gathering with the families to address their needs and how they can help them. SAL is looking to increase their social work spread to more families in need.
